After the movement, half of the students will be hired by public transport in all cities including Chittagong. This was announced at a press conference on Sunday (December 5). The transport owners’ association has said that the fare will be effective under certain conditions like in Dhaka.
The decision will take effect from December 11 (Saturday), said Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary-general of the Road Transport Owners Association.
In view of the students ‘movement, the Road Transport Owners’ Association organized a press conference at Chittagong Press Club on Sunday (December 5) at 11:20 am. There Enayet Ullah said that half rent will also be taken in the cities where there is city service. However, half rent will not be taken at the inter-district level.
Apart from this, the students must keep the valid identity card of their respective educational institution on the bus and show it if necessary. Students will get a half fare from 8 am to 8 pm for bus service. Half rent will not be effective on holidays. Half rent will only be effective in the metropolis.
For the last few days, the students have been agitating in Chittagong to ensure half fare, safe roads, and 9 points. Students have staged demonstrations and human chains in different parts of the city demanding these things. On Thursday (December 2), a delegation of students handed over a memorandum to the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges with the same demand through the Chittagong Deputy Commissioner.
The press conference was informed that the student has to show the ID card with the picture. Half rent will not be effective on public holidays, weekly holidays, seasonal holidays of educational institutions.
