Health services are being disrupted at Barguna Sadar Hospital due to a shortage of doctors

The patients complained that they were being referred to Barisal Medical College Hospital as there was no specialist doctor.

An average of 600 patients seek treatment at the outpatient department of Barguna Sadar Hospital every day. And an average of 150 people are admitted. Although there are 43 medical posts for this service of the hospital, there are only six.

There are no specialist doctors here. Once a day, the patients visit the admitted patients. Surgery or any complex patients are sent to Barisal Medical College. Angry patients and relatives not getting the desired service.

Due to the lack of adequate doctors, the doctors on duty are struggling under the pressure of the patients. The matter was repeatedly reported to the upper house but the problem was not resolved, said the caretaker of the hospital.

Barguna Sadar Hospital caretaker said. Md. Sohbar Uddin said, I am repeatedly informing the higher authorities in writing. They have assured us many times that doctors will be posted here but we are not getting specialist doctors.

However, local MP Advocate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu has promised to take steps to resolve the crisis. “I have informed the minister and the secretary in writing for the doctors and everything else,” he said. Hopefully arrangements will be made very soon.

In the last three months, 41,071 patients have been treated in the outpatient department of the hospital. And 13 thousand 60 patients have been admitted to the hospital.
