20 accused in Abrar Fahad murder case hanged

Today is the verdict of the murder case after two years and three months. Abrar’s family demanded the death penalty for all the accused involved in the incident.

The verdict was scheduled to be announced on November 26 at the number one speedy trial tribunal in Dhaka. However, as the verdict was not ready on that day, the next day (December 6) the day of the verdict was given by Judge Abu Jafar. Kamruzzaman. It may be mentioned that on 5 October 2019, Abrar Fahad posted a status on Facebook about various agreements between Bangladesh and India.

Due to this, Abrar, a resident student of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET and a second-year student of the Electrical Engineering Department was called from his room by some unruly leaders and activists of BUET Chhatra League. They went to Room 1011 in Abrar, woke him up at night, and brought him to Room 2011 with his laptop and two mobile phones.

Abrar was then brutally beaten to death in that room. Police recovered his body from the stairs of Sher-e-Bangla Hall at around 3 pm. The next day, on October 8, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case with the Chawkbazar Police Station accusing 19 people. The court framed charges against the accused on September 15, 2020.

Out of the total accused, 22 were arrested at different times. They are currently in jail. There are three fugitives. They are all BUET Chhatra League workers. During the trial, the court heard the testimony of 47 out of 60 witnesses. 21 signs and 7 seizure lists were submitted to the court.
